paper houses

These were prototypes for walls to be used in full sized paper shack.  I was combining wheatpasted drawings with primitive paper architecture.  I was trying to inhabit, occupy or activate the interior space.
I abandoned the notion of a "haunted" space in favor of an empty interior that provides refuge from an active, anxious exterior.

summer shack

this is the first paper shack, built in mid July for the filming of Summer of Surrender, a collaborative video piece with Zehra Khan and Tim O'Donnell.

I am intersted in the idea of "skinning" a structure:  Drawing the walls, roof and architectucal details on the wall, then attatching the skin to an awaiting frame.  The 2 dimensional skin is even more exciting than the structure.  I will be returning to this idea later in 2010 and 2011.
